City of Fairbanks launches new alert system
Fairbanks Safety Alerts is the new alert system being used
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The city of Fairbanks has launched a new safety alert system.
Replacing the previously used system, Nixle, “Fairbanks Safety Alerts”, which is powered by Smart 911, has the same purpose of keeping the community and visitors informed on anything that concerns public safety.
One way to sign up for alerts is to create a profile on Smart911.com. You will be able to choose the method you’d like to receive alerts and pick which public safety department(s) you’d like to receive alerts from.
If you wish to not create a profile with Smart 911, another way to sign up for alerts is by texting FPDALERTS to 67283. You will receive a reply informing you that you have been enrolled.
Public Information Officer, Teal Soden, highlighted a benefit of creating a profile with Smart 911; you can receive alerts that are specific to the area of town you reside in. Since you provide an address when creating your profile, you will get notified when there is anything related to public safety going on in your area.
Individuals who were previously enrolled with Nixle will not be automatically enrolled in the new system and will have to re-enroll via one of the options above to receive alerts again. More information about Fairbanks Safety Alerts can be found at Fairbanksalaska.us.
