Fun in the sun at Fairbanks Military Appreciation Day
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - When describing the military, words like discipline, national defense, and honor come to mind, but on Saturday it was a time for the military to just have fun.
The Fairbanks North Star Borough’s annual event, Fairbanks Military Appreciation Day, originally began as a welcome home to soldiers returning from deployment and has evolved to honor all military personnel and their families.
Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base personnel and family members were treated to lots of fun in the sun Saturday at Fairbanks Military Appreciation Day at Pioneer Park.
The day was filled with carousel and train rides, carnival games, and a special performance by the 9th Army Band. There was even a chance to pet a pony and hold chickens at the petting station.
The heavy artillery tanks and fire trucks were a family favorite to explore. Two young attendees by the name of Blake and Rhett Fantin shared their excitement about the oversized vehicles, with Blake saying, “I like the exhibits over there with the machinery.”
