Help Wanted: How to help for the annual Golden Heart Clean-up Day
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - As you’re driving around interior Alaska, you will notice all the debris that was hiding under the snow is now clearly visible.
The Midnight Sun Council of the Boy Scouts of America is asking for your help in ridding the streets of the resurfaced liter during a well-known community-wide volunteer initiative. Golden Heart Clean Up Day is an annual event and this year it will be taking place on Saturday, May 14th.
Getting involved is simple for those willing to be assigned to an area and work to get the community clean. The Midnight Sun Council’s Executive Scout, Stephen Smith, shared the push for participant registration to make sure the entire borough is covered. Smith said, “We would like people to sign up on the MidnightSunBSA.org site and sign up so we know there’s no overlap. So if somebody’s already got a road, we don’t want somebody else going there. If it is already claimed, the Boy Scouts will assign another area, just in case you aren’t assigned to a location.”
Smith added‚ ”If we are all there for the same thing, it’s always good to have extra hands to help out.”
Community members wanting to help on Clean Up Day can pick up bags from the Boy Scouts, Cowles Heating, Central Recycling Facility, and Green Star of Interior Alaska.
