President Joe Biden receiving mixed reviews from Alaskans ahead of first State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The president will deliver his first State of the Union Address Tuesday night in front of both chambers of Congress. After a year, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) is not supportive of the Biden administration’s efforts.

“Stop the war on Alaska working families,” said Sullivan.

With the natural resource rich Last Frontier State heavily reliant on its energy industry, Sullivan argues the Biden administration’s push to go green has Alaskans seeing red, and he wants to see them back off.

“They have regulators, they have administrators, who are all focused on shutting down the production of American energy, not just in Alaska,” said Sullivan.

As Sullivan wants President Biden to back off some priorities in favor of a more unifying tone, Alaska Democrats are hoping he goes bigger and bolder.

“I would love to hear him say that we’re staying the course, that we’re on the right path, that we’re making sure that Americans are taken care of,” said Casey Steinau, chair of the Alaska Democratic Party.

She said the president has plenty to be proud of after his first year, like the COVID rescue package, the infrastructure law, and pro-environment policies. And she is optimistic the White House has solutions for issues like inflation-driven high prices.

“The Biden White House is doing everything it can to help lift us out of the challenges that we’ve dug ourselves sort of into previously,” said Steinau.

The president’s speech is set to begin here on Capitol Hill at 9 p.m. ET.
