Alaska Waste of the Interior partners with Santa’s Helpers to deliver bikes to Interior children

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -A new bicycle is one of the most popular items at the top of every young child’s Christmas Wish List. In some instances, purchasing a new two-wheeled ride is not affordable for every family. A Fairbanks, Alaska company, Alaska Waste of the Interior, has partnered with Santa’s Helpers to deliver the highly requested gift to Interior children. For the second year, the partnership has adopted the “Bike Build Giveback” program to donate bikes to those children.

The company has gathered donated funds from employees to purchase the bicycles. The pledge made by Alaska Waste and its business partners was to match the donations to buy the bikes. Alaska Waste employees and family members volunteered to assemble the bikes making this holiday surprise extra special.

The District Manager of Alaska Waste, Ken Simington, mentioned 30 bicycles were given away for 2020′s “Bike Build Giveback.” Honoring the pledge alongside Alaska Waste included: William Satterberg, Shannon and Wilson, The Elks Lodge, Downes Law Firm, Craig Taylor-Peterbilt, Kenworth, Trailercraft, Walmart/ Santa’s Helpers.

This year, almost 90 bikes are waiting to be assembled and gifted on December 19th. Before the delivery date, because of the generous donations, that number can grow.
