FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) will be providing a pop-up vaccine clinic at the World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIO).

According to Brittany Karns, Staff Pharmacist at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center, TCC is excited to provide the opportunity to vaccinate to those attending WEIO. “We are excited that so many people are coming to town for WEIO, and we are really excited to be there. We’re definitely hopeful that people who it just haven’t been convenient for them to get the vaccine, that by being there it will be convenient for them. So I don’t know how many people coming will be interested, but we’re definitely going to be well prepared because we’re really hopeful to see a lot of people.”

This is by no means the first vaccine clinic TCC has held, as the organization has been hard at work providing vaccines to help stop the spread of COVID-19, according to Karns. “We have done a lot of trips out to our rural communities. We have an in-clinic COVID-19 vaccine clinic that was very well attended for a long time and now is a little bit less - we have gone down to one day a week. We’re also able to provide vaccines to people in patient appointments. So we have lots of vaccines available, we’ve had a lot of really good responses; but I also think, reflective of the Interior community, we would love to have more people who are interested.”

According to Karns, TCC will be at WEIO this week providing vaccines and information on vaccinations to those in attendance. Karns explained, “So we are super excited to be having a pop-up clinic at WEIO this week on Thursday, 7/22 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. We’ll be there with Johnson & Johnson and potentially some of the other vaccines; but we’re there to answer questions and to vaccinate anyone who’d like to.”
