Pet of the Week: Romeo the big and cuddly Karelian Bear Dog mix
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - It’s time to meet Romeo, the large cuddly teddy bear who has a lot of love to give.
Here’s what Britley Calkins, an animal handler with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:
“Romeo is a five-year-old Karelian Bear Dog mix who was surrendered to the shelter with his sister Juliet because his owners were no longer able to care for them.
Romeo is a super sweet boy, lived with a previous dog, and seems to be very friendly with his neighbor dogs. If you are planning on introducing him to other animals, please just make sure to do so in a safe and controlled manner.
Romeo does have a lot of energy, he’s looking for an active household that can take him on plenty of adventures. He would highly benefit from being harness trained as he is quite a puller.
Romeo is housebroken and does very well with keeping his kennel clean here at the shelter. He hasn’t been destructive as far as tearing up blankets or toys goes. He is just a happy boy looking for his forever home, and if you think that could be with you, please give the shelter a call. We also have plenty of other dogs, cats, bunnies, and rodents available for adoption here at the shelter.”
