Fairbanks cheer team to compete at world championships in Florida
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Fairbanks cheer team the North Star All Stars will be competing in the 2021 Cheerleading World Championships in Florida.
The team competed in four events, outscoring anywhere between 200 and 350 other teams from around the world to earn the chance to compete in the World Championship.
Teffonie & Phillip Wyman, proud cheer parents, expressed how dedicated and determined the team was to get to this point.
Teffonie Wyman said, “We’re speaking as parents and community supporters of the North Star All Stars who are headed to the World Championship in just a couple of days, and we can’t say enough about the perseverance and determination of this team. It’s been a challenging year navigating the pandemic and how that looks like. But this team has not just persevered, this team has triumphed, they have come together as a family and they have shown not only excellence on the mat, but excellence off the mat as well - with sportsmanship and determination and courage. We are so proud of this journey that this team has taken, winning national titles in their quest to ultimately win a bid to the World Championship.”
Phillip Wyman commented on the passion and perseverance the team showed during their previous competitions. “I think just watching the girls go through all the difficult things, many of them are cross-competing and just the toll that takes on their bodies and the toll that takes just emotionally to constantly be on. Throughout all the competitions there’s been great victories all along the way with just seeing titles and winning different competitions to get to this point, and it’s just been amazing for us to watch and just see the passion come alive and the excitement that comes with being a part of a team that has such unity.”
