FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Gas prices are going up across the country, including here in Fairbanks.

Industrial shutdowns in Texas due to the extreme cold last week have caused a ripple effect on gas prices nationwide.

The national average gas price has jumped to $2.53 a gallon for regular unleaded Tuesday, up nearly 15 cents from last month’s average according to fuel price tracking website GasBuddy.

Alaska’s average gas price has gone up approximately 10 cents a gallon in the last week, similar to the national average.

According to Patrick DeHaan, Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy, Alaska’s current statewide average is approximately $2.76 a gallon. DeHaan added, “We may see a little bit more of a rise, although I think the worst of the increases are already behind us. We could see another increase of a few cents per gallon here, over the coming week or so.”
