FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Boeing has brought its newest twin-aisle aircraft to Fairbanks to conduct cold weather testing. The Boeing 777X series of aircraft are comprised of the 777-8 and the 777-9.
A Boeing 777-9 aircraft was parked on the tarmac at Fairbanks International Airport Wednesday, where it is undergoing testing.
According to a statement from Boeing the cold weather testing being done is, “Part of our rigorous test program for the 777X, which is progressing well. We’re conducting a comprehensive series of tests and conditions, on the ground and in the air, to demonstrate the safety and reliability of the design.”
A press release about the 777X claims that the 777-9 is the largest and most fuel efficient twin engine jet in the world.
The airplanes were announced at the Dubai Airshow in 2013 and began flying for testing in January of 2020. The first aircraft are expected to be delivered to airlines by 2023.
