North Pole Elementary begins contact tracing after positive COVID case
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -Today is the first Monday since in-person learning was re-established as an option across the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. But North Pole Elementary asked that all students remain at home and attend remotely today only, due to a potential COVID-19 outbreak.
Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade have had the option to return to in-person school throughout the district since last Tuesday, January 19th. According to an announcement from North Pole Elementary, a student tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the school to initiate a round of contact tracing to determine which students were close contacts. Currently, all students who occupied space in the same school buses as the positive case have been required to stay home to mitigate the spread of the virus while specific close contacts are verified.
