FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) -U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski issued a statement after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.

She said Alaska frontline health workers and long-term care facility residents could be getting their vaccine shots as early as this week. But the senator warned that even in the holiday season, residents continue to follow guidelines including avoiding large gatherings, wearing masks and washing hands.

“Today’s announcement is good progress,” Murkowski said, “But this is just the first step in a long journey back to ‘normal’. As we navigate this phase of recovery, the best gift we can give each other is to continue our efforts to protect the health and safety of ourselves and others.”
