Fairbanks police close highway to investigate early morning shooting

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The Fairbanks Police Department closed the southbound lane of the Steese Highway between Johansen and Trainer Gate Road early this morning while they investigated two shooting victims who were found in a crashed car in the highway median.

According to a press release from the City of Fairbanks, FPD responded to a single vehicle collision around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday on the Steese Highway. Inside the vehicle they found two occupants with gunshot wounds. The victims, both adults where taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and are expected to recover.

The press release says that police have identified a suspect and that they are not seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect.

By 1:32 p.m., the highway had reopened to traffic.
