Fairbanks man arrested for failing to register as a sex offender

His non-compliance status was discovered after he called Troopers to report people dressed up as animals

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A Fairbanks man who called Alaska State Troopers about people dressed up as animals was arrested for not registering as a sex offender.

According to AST, Steven Gruff, age 56 of Fairbanks, reported to the troopers that there were people dressed up as animals, and he was scared.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Gruff was in noncompliance with Sex Offender Registration regulations.

He was placed under arrest for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in the 2nd Degree, or failing to annually register.

Gruff was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where we was remanded and released under his own recognizance after successfully updating his SOR.

Alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors.
