APD identifies a suspect they are looking for near Bootleggers Cove
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage police say a suspect is still on the run after officers cleared the area of Bootleggers Cove Tuesday morning.
Around 6 a.m. APD put out an alert that officers were looking for a suspect with felony warrants.
According to an online dispatch from Alaska State Troopers, Wasilla police and Alaska State Troopers tried to make contact with 19-year-old Tyler Smith but he did not yield to authorities and a pursuit ensued.
AST says Smith, who is from Fairbanks, had three felony arrest warrants totaling $35,000 stemming from charges of escape, burglary and failure to appear.
Troopers say he led law enforcement on a chase from Wasilla to Anchorage. During the chase troopers say Smith used his vehicle to physically assault one police officer, causing minor injuries, and drove towards another officer.
Smith crashed his car and took off on foot. Law enforcement says he was able to get away.
APD describes him as a white adult male with short, shaggy brown hair, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs around 185 pounds. He was last seen on foot wearing a gray hoodie with red and blue sleeves and blue jogging pants.
Police say if you see him, call 911.
